Ravensthorpe

All flippered up, Steven Mills, Robert Smit and Mike Sternfeldt boldly tackled Anglian Water’s Ravensthorpe reservoir from float-tubes on Saturday 31st May.

As you can see, some nice fish were caught. Steve, using a pan-net with a scale printed on the inside, reported three 18”-ers and one 17”, all on standard damsels (some on big weighted ones, others on a small un-weighted pattern), plus lots of other takes he was unable to connect with.

With the natural very much in evidence – damsel nymphs were apparently swimming around while they were fishing – these fish were taken in the top six feet of water.

Some anchored boat fishers were catching rather more on buzzers, but others were saying they were struggling, and that it was slower than it should be for this time of year.

Steve says that Ravensthorpe is a venue that has very clear water, in a picturesque setting. He reckons they managed to cover about two thirds of this 100 acre water, which wasn’t bad going.

In short, a good time was had by all, and he would definitely recommend another visit.
