Clear-up Day 2008

Sunday 13th April saw a good turn-out from members on the Railway Bank of No 4.

Although Thames Water regularly hire a contractor to keep the banks clear (as happened not long after these pictures were taken), this work only affects the grassy areas surrounding the reservoirs.

It’s the brambles and undergrowth between the concrete slabs which snags your loose line, and this was our target for today.

Organised by the indefatigable John Ferguson, we were soon hard at work, grubbing this out, binning and removing it to rot down underneath the hedges.

As you can see, we managed to clear all the Railway Bank and about half of the East Bank of No 4 before the lure of the Ferry Boat proved too much.

Again, thanks to all who took part, you certainly made a difference. Similar events are being considered for the future.

Before - the scale of the problem

First it’s grubbed out...

...then it’s binned

After - nothing to snag your line now
