(contact Andy for further dates)

The Start Fly Fishing course at Walthamstow reservoirs is a broad introduction to fly fishing in general, and how to fish the reservoirs open to trout fishing with artificial flies, and at Walthamstow in particular.

The objective of the day is to enable a newcomer to the sport to come back on their own and begin to fish. To achieve this we teach casting (without which you cannot fish), and all the variables necessary to set up and fish effectively - tackle choice, a casting style appropriate to stillwater bank fishing, knots, fly choice (including a fly tying demo), and retrieve styles.

More than this, we try to set attendees on the right path to really enjoy their journey by giving a skeleton approach to hang their future thinking and learning around. This can knock years off the learning curve.

The course is run by Andy Hathaway, a qualified and extremely experienced, even fanatical, game angler. He has a very simple view, that fishing is there to be enjoyed.

The course costs £50 for the day, and everyone must have an Environment Agency Licence obtainable from the Post Office. Completion of the course entitles you to a half price season ticket for that year at Walthamstow, currently saving £180.

All tackle is provided, but you are welcome to bring your own, but please don’t buy specially for the course because you will choose much more wisely afterwards.

Please book via my website: www.flyfishingtuition.com

There is a maximum of six participants per course, as each fills another, comes up.

Note: We run them at times of the year when the fishing is likely to be good.
